Dementia
Dementia (from Latin de- “apart, away” + mens ( genitive “mind”). It is a new term of art for what was once called ‘senility’. It is noted that chronic use of substances, such as alcohol, is also known to predispose the patient to cognitive changes suggestive of dementia. Perhaps ‘dementia’ is our little ‘happy place’ we escape to?
